The month of Ramadhan

It is related by Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) said

"When the month of Ramadhan comes,
the Gates of Heaven are thrown open
and the Gates of Hell are shut,
and the devils are put behind bars"

In another report, the "Gates of Mercy"
are mentioned in place of the "Gates of Heaven".

[Bukhari and Muslim]

Allah has 99 names

Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger
of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,
"Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one. Whoever
ahsaha [enumerates them, believes in them, ponders their meanings, worships Allah by
them and supplicates with them, and acts by them according to one's belief in them] will
enter Paradise.
(Recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Whose dua is never rejected

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reports,
Rasulullah (sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) declared,
'Three men whose dua is never rejected (by Allah) are:
the fasting person until he breaks his fast
(in another narration, when he breaks fast),
the just ruler and the one who is oppressed.
'[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]

Past sins will be forgiven

Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that
Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)said :
"Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith,
and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven."

[Bukhari

Ar-Rayyaan

Sahl ibn Sa’d, radiya’llahu ‘anhu narrates that
Prophet Muhammad, salla’llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
"Paradise has eight gates, and one of them is called ar-Rayyaan,
through which none will enter but those who observe fasting."

[al-Bukhaari]

Fasting is for me...

Abu Hurayra (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,

"Allah, the Mighty and Exalted said,

'Every action of the son of Adam is for himself except fasting,
for that is solely for Me. I give the reward for it.’

Eat sahoor

Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Eat sahoor for in sahoor there is blessing.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari & Muslim

Give up forged speech

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,

"Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions,
Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink.
(i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)" {Sahih Al-Bukhari}

Who provides a fasting person

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,
"He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast,
will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast,
without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.'' [At-Tirmidhi].

Dua on Lailatul Qadr

Hazrat Aisha Radiallah Anha stated that I asked Rasool Allah peace be upon him,
"If I find Lailatul Qadar then what should I do?
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, recite this Dua.

"ALLAH HUMMA INNAKA A’FUVUN TOHIB BUL AFVA FA’AFU ANNI"

(Tirmidhi)

Two occasions for joy

Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that
the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:
The fasting person has two occasions for joy, one when he breaks his fast because
of his breaking it (and thus enjoys what he had to abstain from) and the other
when he meets his Lord because of the reward for his fast
[Al-Bukhaari & Muslim].

Lailatul-Qadr

Abu Hurairah Radhiya Allahu `anhu reported that the
Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said :

"Whoever stands (in prayer) in Lailatul-Qadr out of Eemaan
(faith and sincerety) and seeking reward then his previous sins are forgiven".

{Bukhari}

Umrah in Ramadan

Ibn `Abbâs relates that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) asked a woman
from Madinah: “What prevented you from embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage with us?” She replied: “We had two camels. My husband and child took one and left the other
for the rest of us to ride on.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) then told her: “When the month or Ramadan arrives,
go for ‘umrah, because `umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying me on Hajj.”
[Sahîh al-Bukhârî (1764)]

To be deprived of Laylatul Qadr is to be deprived of all Good

Anas (Radiallaho Anho) reports :
"Once when Ramadhan began, the Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said:
"A month has verily come upon you, wherein lies a night better than a thousand
months. Whoever misses such a night has indeed been deprived of all that is
good and none is deprived of it, except he who is really unfortunate."

Believer never satisfies

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said,

"A believer never satisfies doing good until he reaches Jannah.''
[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: According to this Hadith, it is a quality of a Muslim
that he is very much concerned about acquiring virtues and doing
good, and he is never tired of struggling for them and live by them
so much so that in this struggle he reaches the end of his life.
By mentioning this Hadith in Kitab-ul-`Ilm it has been made
evident that the best of the virtues is learning and teaching of
religious knowledge because it is actually this knowledge which
enables a person to distinguish between good and evil.

Fasting Six days of Shawwal

Abu Ayyoub (Radiallaho Anho) reported that
the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said
"Whoever fasts the month of Ramadhan and then follows it by fasting six days
during the month of Shawwal will be rewarded as if he had fasted the entire year.
[Muslim, at-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawood and Ahmad by way of Jabir].
These days can be anytime during the month of Shawwal except the first day because
it is unlawful to fast the day of Eid. These days do not have to be at beginning of the
month nor do they have to be consecutive. Hence, Muslims should seize this
opportunity and fast these six days to get Allah's reward.
Why the fasting of six days of Shawal after Ramadhan equates that of the whole year?
Some `Ulamaa' say that the good deed is rewarded ten times.
Thus fasting six days is like fasting 60 days, added to 30 days of Ramadhan times 10
(i.e. 300) it makes it a year.

which deed is the dearest to Allah?

When `Abdullah Bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) asked
"which deed is the dearest to Allah?"
the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) replied,
"To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times".
(Sahih Bukhari).

Miswaak be used for every Salaat

Hadhrat Syedna Abu Hurairah (Radhi Allahu Anhu) narrates that
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
"Was it not for my fear of imposing a difficulty on my Ummah
I would have ordered that the Miswaak be used for every Salaat."

[BUKHARI]

Visits sick Muslim brother

Hadrat Ali (Radhi Allahu Anhu) reports that
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said,

'When a Muslim visits his sick Muslim brother in the morning, seventy thousand
angels make dua for his forgiveness till the evening. And when he visits him in the
evening, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness till the morning,
and he will be granted a garden for it in Jannah.'

[Tirmizi, Abu Dawood]

Miswak

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said,

"I stress upon you to use Miswak (tooth-stick).''
[Al-Bukhari].

Unprofitable talk

Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrates
that Rasulullah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:

The excellence and good observance of Islam by
a man is to leave aside what does not concern him.

(Tirmidhi)

Note: The meaning of this hadith is that the perfection and beauty
of a man's belief is reflected in his giving up unprofitable talk and actions.

Paradise is obligatory for him

'Uqbah ibn 'Aamir (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) said:
Rasoolullah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said

Whoever makes wudoo and makes it well, then prays two
rak'ahs concentrating therein with his heart and his face -
then Paradise is obligatory for him.

{Muslim}

On the day of Judgement

'Abdullah ibn Qart, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrates
that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:

"On the Day of Judgement, the first thing a slave of Allah will be held accountable
for is Salat. If it is found sound and satisfactory, the rest of his deeds will also be
sound and satisfactory, and if found corrupt and rotten, then the rest of his deeds
will also be corrupt and rotten."

House in Paradise

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Whoever recites Qul huwa Allaahu ahad ten times,
Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.”
(Saheeh al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, 6472).

Qul huwal lahu a'haad.
Allah'hus Samad. Lam ya'lid wa'lam yu'lad. Wa'lam ya'kul-la'hu Kuf'fu'wan a'had.
" Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;
And there is none like unto Him." 112:1- 4

Hajj--Hadith Number Three

Hadith Number Three:Hazrat Aayesha R.A. reports that Rasulullah Sal'am said: "There is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of Arafaat. And on that day Allah draws near to the earth and by way of exhibiting His pride remarks to the Angels: "What is the desire of these servants of mine."
Note: As for the fact that 'Allah draws near' or 'descends' to the lowest heaven and similar phrases in Hadith literature, it should be borne in mind that Allah alone knows best the correct meaning. Allah is at all times near. He is not at all in need of the literal ascending or descending. When they come across such statements, the ulama explains it as referring to Allah's special mercies that draw near.
Whatever has been read in this above Hadith has been said in many others. In one Hadith for example we read: "When the day of Arafaat dawns, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and boastingly remark to the Angels: " Look at My servants, they have come towards Me with their hair disheveled and scattered while their bodies and clothes are covered with the dust of long journeys. The cry from them is 'Labbaik, Allahumma Labbaik (We are at Your service, 'O Lord, we are at Your service) 'O My Angels, I take you to witness that I have forgiven their sins". The Angels will say: "O Allah among them there is that person who is inclined towards sin, and there are among them that evil man. And that so woman": Allah will reply: " I have forgiven them all".
Rasulullah (Salallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said: "On no other day are so many souls set free from hell as on that day". (Mishkaat) We see the same theme in the following tradition: Allah says (on that day) "these servants of mine have come to Me with disheveled hair, begging for My mercy". Then addressing the pilgrims Allah says: "Even though your sins shall be as numerous as the grains of sand on the earth and though they may be as many as the raindrops that descend from heaven, and though your sins be as many as the trees that grow on the earth, I forgive them all. Proceed from here to your homes while your sins are forgiven".
Looking at another Hadith we read: (on the day of Arafaat) Allah boastingly addressing the Angels say: "Look at them, I have sent my Messenger to them. They believed in him. I revealed My book to them and they believed in it. You be My witness that I have forgiven them all. (Kanzul Ummaal)
We, therefore, see that the same theme of general pardon is found in so many Ahadith. The manner that it is mentioned has the impression with many ulama that minor as well as major sins are included. All this, to pardon minor and major sins alike lies in the hands of the Merciful One. Disobedience to His will is called sin. Should He in His infinite Mercy desire to forgive any body or group no one can object to it.
Hazrat Qadhi Ayaaz mentions an incident in his famous book - Shifaa. He says that some people from among the tribe of Kutama came once to the saintly Saadoon Khowlani and explained a certain incident to him. They told him that some people from the tribe killed a certain person and then tried to burn his body. For the whole night they left the corpse to burn in a fire they made, but it would not burn, and in fact remained as white and unburned as ever. When Saadoon heard about the body that would not burn, he said: "The man must have performed three pilgrimages";
The people replied: "He had indeed" Thereupon Saadoon said: "Whoever performs one Hajj, he has fulfilled his obligation to Allah; whoever perform two pilgrimages he has given Allah a debt and whoever performs three pilgrimages, for him Allah has prohibited the fire from burning his skin and his hair."

The best amongst you

Hadrat Uthman (Radhi Allaho anho) narrates that
Rasulullah (sallallaho alaihe wasallam) said:
"The best amongst you is the one who
learns the Qur'aan and teaches it."
[Reported by Bukhaaree]

Rewards for fluent recitation..

Aishah (Radhi Allaho anha) narrates that
Rasulullah (sallallaho alaihe wasallam) once said,
"One who is well versed in the Qur'an will be in the company of those
angels who are scribes, noble and righteous; and one who falters in reading
the Qur'an, and has to exert hard for learning, gets double the reward."
(Bukhari)

Reward of Hajj Mabrur

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said,

"(The performance of) `Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed
between it and the previous `Umrah; and the reward of Hajj Mabrur
(i.e., one accepted) is nothing but Jannah.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Best Jihad for women

Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:
I said: "O Messenger of Allah! ( sallallahu alayhi wasallam )
We consider Jihad as the best deed, should we not then go for Jihad?''
The Messenger of Allah ( sallallahu alayhi wasallam ) said,

"The best Jihad for you women is Hajj Mabrur (i.e., one accepted by Allah).''

[Al-Bukhari].

After the Adhan

Sa`d bin Abu Waqqas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

"He who says after the Adhan:

`Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah Wah-dahu la sharika Lahu;
wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa Rasuluhu,
radhitu Billahi Rabban,
wa bi Muhammadin Rasulan,
wa bil Islami Dinan

[I testify that there is no true god except Allah Alone; He has no partners
and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is His
slave and Messenger; I am content with Allah as my Rubb,
with Muhammad as my Messenger and with Islam as my Deen],'

his sins will be forgiven.''
[Muslim].

IBAADAT of these nights

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said,
“On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the first 10 days of Zil-Hijjah.
The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the
IBAADAT of each of these nights is equal to the IBAADAT of LAILATUL QADR”.
(Tirmizi & Ibn Maajah)

Virtues of the Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

Virtues of the Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah Shiekh Salh AL MunijjedHow do the first ten days of the Month of Dhul Hijjah differ from other days of the year? Praise be to Allaah Who has created Time and has made some times better than others, some months and days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. This encourages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them more eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepare himself for death and supply himself in readiness for the Day of Judgement. This season of worship brings many benefits, such as the opportunity to correct one’s faults and make up for any shortcomings or anything that one might have missed. Every one of these special occasions involves some kind of worship through which the slaves may draw closer to Allaah, and some kind of blessing though which Allaah bestows His favour and mercy upon whomsoever He will. The happy person is the one who makes the most of these special months, days and hours and draws nearer to his Lord during these times through acts of worship; he will most likely be touched by the blessing of Allaah and will feel the joy of knowing that he is safe from the flames of Hell. (Ibn Rajab, al-Lataa’if, p.8)The Muslim must understand the value of his life, increase his worship of Allaah and persist in doing good deeds until the moment of death. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty." [al-Hijr 15:99] The mufassireen (commentators) said: "‘The certainty’ means death." Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, which Allaah has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 2/457).Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) also reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of Sacrifice." He was asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Reported by al-Daarimi, 1/357; its isnaad is hasan as stated in al-Irwaa’, 3/398).These texts and others indicate that these ten days are better than all the other days of the year, with no exceptions, not even the last ten days of Ramadaan. But the last ten nights of Ramadaan are better, because they include Laylat al-Qadr ("the Night of Power"), which is better than a thousand months. Thus the various reports may be reconciled. (See Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 5/412).You should know, my brother in Islaam, that the virtue of these ten days is based on many things: Allaah swears an oath by them, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefit. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "By the dawn; by the ten nights" [al-Fajr 89:1-2]. Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Ibn Katheer said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/413)The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) testified that these are the best days of this world, as we have already quoted above from saheeh ahaadeeth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) encouraged people to do righteous deeds because of the virtue of this season for people throughout the world, and also because of the virtue of the place - for the Hujjaaj (pilgrims) to the Sacred House of Allaah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allaah"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah") and Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar") during this time. ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed." (Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh). These ten days include Yawm ‘Arafaah (the Day of ‘Arafaah), on which Allaah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years. These days also include Yawm al-Nahar (the Day of Sacrifice), the greatest day of the entire year and the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a way unlike any other day. These ten days include the days of sacrifice and of Hajj. Question: What must the Muslim avoid during these ten days if he wants to offer a sacrifice? The Sunnah indicates that the one who wants to offer a sacrifice must stop cutting his hair and nails and removing anything from his skin, from the beginning of the ten days until after he has offered his sacrifice, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "When you see the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah, if any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, then he should stop cutting his hair and nails until he has offered his sacrifice." According to another report he said: "He should not remove (literally, touch) anything from his hair or skin." (reported by Muslim with four isnaads, 13/146) The Prophet’s instruction here makes one thing obligatory and his prohibition makes another haraam, according to the soundest opinion, because these commands and prohibitions are unconditional and unavoidable. However, if a person does any of these things deliberately, he must seek Allaah’s forgiveness but is not required to offer (an extra) sacrifice in expiation; his sacrifice will be acceptable. Whoever needs to remove some hair, nails, etc. because it is harming him, such as having a broken nail or a wound in a site where there is hair, should do so, and there is nothing wrong with that. The state of ihraam is so important that it is permitted to cut one’s hair if leaving it will cause harm. There is nothing wrong with men or women washing their heads during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) only forbade cutting the hair, not washing it.The wisdom behind this prohibition of the one who wants to offer a sacrifice from cutting his hair etc., is so that he may resemble those in ihraam in some aspects of the rituals performed, and so that he may draw closer to Allaah by offering the sacrifice. So he leaves his hair and nails alone until the time when he has offered his sacrifice, in the hope that Allaah will save him in his entirety from the Fire. And Allaah knows best.If a person has cut his hair or nails during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah because he was not planning to offer a sacrifice, then he decides later, during the ten days, to offer a sacrifice, then he must refrain from cutting his hair and nails from the moment he makes this decision. Some women may delegate their brothers or sons to make the sacrifice on their behalf, then cut their hair during these ten days. This is not correct, because the ruling applies to the one who is offering the sacrifice, whether or not he (or she) delegates someone else to carry out the actual deed. The prohibition does not apply to the person delegated, only to the person who is making the sacrifice, as is indicated in the hadeeth. The person who is sacrificing on behalf of someone else, for whatever reason, does not have to adhere to this prohibition. This prohibition appears to apply only to the one who is offering the sacrifice, not to his wife and children, unless any of them is offering a sacrifice in his or her own right, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to sacrifice "on behalf of the family of Muhammad," but there are no reports that say he forbade them to cut their hair or nails at that time.If a person was planning to offer a sacrifice, then he decides to go and perform Hajj, he should not cut his hair or nails if he wants to enter ihraam, because the Sunnah is only to cut hair and nails when necessary. But if he is performing Tamattu’ [whereby he performs ‘Umrah, comes out of ihraam and enters ihraam anew for Hajj], he should trim his hair at the end of his ‘Umrah because this is part of the ritual. The things that are described above as being prohibited for the person who is planning to offer a sacrifice are reported in the hadeeth quoted above; the person is not forbidden to wear perfume, have marital relations, wear sewn garments, etc.Concerning the types of worship to be performed during these ten days: one must understand that these days are a great blessing from Allaah to His slave, which is appreciated properly by the actively righteous. It is the Muslim’s duty to appreciate this blessing and make the most of the opportunity, by devoting these ten days to paying more attention to striving hard in worship. Among His blessings to His slaves, Allaah has given us many ways in which to do good and worship Him, so that the Muslim may be constantly active and consistent in his worship of his Lord. Among the good deeds which the Muslim should strive to do during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah are: Fasting. It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds. Allaah has chosen fasting for Himself, as is stated in the hadeeth qudsi: "Allaah says: ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except for fasting, which is for Me and I am the One Who will reward him for it.’" (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 1805).The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Hunaydah ibn Khaalid reported from his wife that some of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-Hijjah, on the day of ‘Aashooraa’, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month." (Reported by al-Nisaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawud; classified by al-Albaani as saheeh in Saheeh Abi Dawud, 2/462).Takbeer. It is Sunnah to say Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah"), Tahleel ("La ilaha ill-Allaah") and Tasbeeh ("Subhaan Allaah") during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, and to say it loudly in the mosque, the home, the street and every place where it is permitted to remember Allaah and mention His name out loud, as an act of worship and as a proclamation of the greatness of Allaah, may He be exalted. Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "That they might witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e., reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade, etc.), and mention the name of Allaah on appointed days, over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice)..." [al-Hajj 22:28] The majority of scholars agree that the "appointed days" are the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because of the words of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father): "The ‘appointed days’ are the first ten days (of Dhu’l-Hijjah)." The Takbeer may include the words "Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, la ilaaha ill-Allaah; wa Allaahu akbar wa Lillaahi’l-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god but Allaah; Allaah is Most Great and to Allaah be praise)," as well as other phrases. Takbeer at this time is an aspect of the Sunnah that has been forgotten, especially during the early part of this period, so much so that one hardly ever hears Takbeer, except from a few people. This Takbeer should be pronounced loudly, in order to revive the Sunnah and as a reminder to the negligent. There is sound evidence that Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with them) used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer when they heard them. The idea behind reminding the people to recite Takbeer is that each one should recite it individually, not in unison, as there is no basis in Sharee’ah for doing this. Reviving aspects of the Sunnah that have been virtually forgotten is a deed that will bring an immense reward, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): "Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 7/443; this is a hasan hadeeth because of corroborating asaaneed). Performing Hajj and ‘Umrah. One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allaah. The one whom Allaah helps to go on Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): "An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise." Doing more good deeds in general, because good deeds are beloved by Allaah and will bring a great reward from Him. Whoever is not able to go to Hajj should occupy himself at this blessed time by worshipping Allaah, praying (salaat), reading Qur’an, remembering Allaah, making supplication (du’aa’), giving charity, honouring his parents, upholding the ties of kinship, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and other good deeds and acts of worship.Sacrifice. One of the good deeds that will bring a person closer to Allaah during these ten days is offering a sacrifice, by choosing a high-quality animal and fattening it, spending money for the sake of Allaah. Sincere repentance. One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allaah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin. Repentance means coming back to Allaah and foregoing all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes, out of regret for what has passed, giving it up immediately and being determined never to return to it, but to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing what Allaah loves. If a Muslim commits a sin, he must hasten to repent at once, without delay, firstly because he does not know when he will die, and secondly because one evil deed leads to another. Repentance at special times is very important because in most cases people’s thoughts turn towards worship at these times, and they are keen to do good, which leads to them recognizing their sins and feeling regret for the past. Repentance is obligatory at all times, but when the Muslim combines sincere repentance with good deeds during the days of most virtue, this is a sign of success, in sha Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful." [al-Qasas 28:67] The Muslim should make sure that he does not miss any of these important occasion, because time is passing quickly. Let him prepare himself by doing good deeds which will bring him reward when he is most in need of it, for no matter how much reward he earns, he will find it is less than he needs; the time of departure is at hand, the journey is frightening, delusions are widespread, and the road is long, but Allaah is ever watchful, and to Him will we return and render account. As the Qur’aan says (interpretation of the meaning): "So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it,And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it." [al-Zalzalah 99:7-8] There is much to be gained, so make the most of the opportunity afforded by these invaluable and irreplaceable ten days. Hasten to do good works, before death strikes, before one can regret one’s negligence and failure to act, before one is asked to return to a place where no prayers will be answered, before death intervenes between the hopeful one and the things he hopes for, before you are trapped with your deeds in the grave.O you whose hard heart is as dark as the night, is it not time that your heart was filled with light and became soft? Expose yourself to the gentle breeze of your Lord’s mercy during these ten days, for Allaah will cause this breeze to touch whomever He wills, and whoever is touched by it will be happy on the Day of Judgement. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and all his Family and Companions.

Al-hamdu lillah.........(all praise is due to Allah),
La ilaha illallah........(there is no true god except Allah)
and
Allahu Akbar............ (Allah is the Greatest)'

is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises.''

[Muslim].

Kibr-Pride

'Abdullah ibn Mas'ood (May Allah be pleased with him) reported
from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhe wa salam) that he said:
"A person who has an atom's weight of pride (kibr)
in his heart will not enter Paradise".
A person asked: "But one does like to wear good clothes and shoes!"
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhe wa salam) replied:
"Indeed Allah is beautiful and loves beauty!
Pride means to reject the truth and to look down on others!"
{Saheeh Muslim, Vol. 1, No. 164}

Ablution ( wudu)

Narrated 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) :
Allah's Messenger (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

"If one after performing ablution (Wudu) completely

(Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu,
wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluhu)

'I testifity that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone

slave and Messenger,'

all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him
and he may enter through any gate he wishes. "

LOVE FOR THE PROPHET

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the
Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:

I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for
(the sins committed in) the previous year” .

(Muslim).

Allah's month of Muharram

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam said:

"The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting
during Allah's month of Muharram.'

(Muslim)

Source of Allah's Pleasure

Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) said,

"Allah is pleased with His slave who says:
`Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah)'
when he takes a morsel of food and drinks a draught of water.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: "Aklah'' means to take a meal at one time, whether in the morning,
the evening or at any other time. Similarly "Sharba'' means to drink water at any time.
What the Hadith means is that to praise Allah on eating and drinking every time is a
source of Allah's Pleasure, no matter whether the quantity one consumes is small or large.

Laa ilaaha ilial laah

Hadrat Mu'aaz bin Jabal (Radiyallahu 'anh) reports that

Laa ilaaha ilial laah (There is no true god except Allah)
shall enter Jannah.' (Abu Dawood)

Heavy in the Scales

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful:
`Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim
[Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah,
the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

When you listen ?

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying.

When you listen to the crowing of the cock,
ask Allah for His favour as it sees Angels and
when you listen to the braying of the donkey,
seek refuge in Allah from the Satan
for it sees Satan.

[Al-Bukhari]

The best of you....

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,
"The most perfect man in his faith among the believers
is the one whose behaviour is most excellent; and the
best of you are those who are the best to their wives.''

[At-Tirmidhi].

He who visits a sick person

Sayyiduna Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

"He who visits a sick person who is not on the point of death
and supplicates seven times:

As-alul laahal azeem Rabbal arshil azeem An yashfiyaka

( I beg Allah the Almighty, the Owner of the Majestic Throne,
that He should cure you.),

Allah Ta'ala will certainly heal him from that sickness.''
[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Supplication at the end of every assembly

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

"Whoever sits in a gathering and indulges in useless talk
and before getting up supplicates:

`Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika,
ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta,
astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika

(O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You.
I testify that there is no true god except You;
I ask Your Pardon and turn to You in repentance),'

he will be forgiven for (the sins he may have intentionally
or unintentionally committed) in that assembly.''
[At-Tirmidhi].

Abu Barzah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Towards the end
of his life, Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam
would supplicate before leaving an assembly thus:

"Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika,
ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta,
astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika

(O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; all praise is for You.
I testify that there is no true god except You,
I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance).''

A man once said to him:
"O Messenger of Allah! ( Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam )
You have spoken such words as you have never uttered before.''
He ( Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam ) said,

"It is an expiation of that which goes on in the assembly.''
[Abu Dawud].

Angels do not enter a house

Sayyiduna Abu Talha (May Allah be pleased with him) reported
Allaah's Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) having said:

( Sahih Muslim )

Dua in distress

Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said:
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam)
used to say when he was in distress:

"La ilaha illallahul-Azimul-Halim.
La ilaha illallahu Rabbul-`Arshil-`Azim.
La ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati, wa Rabbul-ardi, wa Rabbul-`Arshil-Karim.

(None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Incomparably Great,
the Compassionate. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb
of the Mighty Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb
of the heavens, the Rubb of the earth, and the Rubb of the Honourable Throne).''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: The only medicine in a time of distress is the remembrance of Allah
Whose Help alone should be sought. This Du`a contains words which glorify Allah and
exalt Him far above all else. It is desirable to recite these words when one is in distress
as this is exactly what the Prophet (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) used to recite
in such situations.

In great debt?

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) reported,
"One day the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) entered the mosque.
He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)saw there a man from the Ansar called
Abu Umamah. He(sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) asked, 'What is the matter
with you that I see you sitting in the mosque when it is not the time of prayer.
' He replied, 'I am very much worried and in great debt, O Messenger of Allah!'
The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, 'Let me teach you words
to say so that Allah will remove your worries and settle your debt?'
He exclaimed, 'Of course, O, Messenger of Allah.'
The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, 'Say in morning and evening,

Allahumma innee a`udhu bika mina al-hamm wal hazan
wa a`udhu bika mina al-`ajzi wa al-kasal
wa a`udhu bika mina al-jubun wa al-bukhl
wa a`udhu bika min ghalabati al-dayni wa qahri al-rrijaal

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from
incapacity and slackness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and niggardliness,
and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and being subjected to men".
' The man said, 'When I did that, Allah removed all my worries and settled my debt'."
(Abu Daw'ud)

Subbuhun Quddusun

Ummul Momineen `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to recite
in his bowing and prostration:

"Subbuhun Quddusun, Rabbul-mala'ikati war-ruh

[ You are the Most Glorious. The Most Holy. You the Rubb of the angels and of Jibril.]
[ Sahih Muslim ].

Commentary: "Subbuh'' and "Quddus'' are two attributive Names of Allah which
denote His Perfect Purity and Uniqueness. "Ar-Ruh'' means Jibril (Gabriel).
Although he, too, comes in the category of angels but his special mention is made
here to emphasize his majesty and honour. In short, the recitation of the prayers
mentioned in this Hadith is in keeping with the practice of the Prophet (PBUH).

adada khalqihi

Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith (May Allah be pleased with her) reported, the Mother of
the Believers: The Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) came out
from my apartment in the morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer.
He (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) came back in the forenoon and
found me sitting there. The Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
"Are you still in the same position as I left you.
'' I replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
"I recited four words three times after I had left you. If these are to be weighed
against all you have recited since morning, these will be heavier. These are:
Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, `adada khalqihi, wa rida nafsihi,
wa zinatah `arshihi, wa midada kalimatihi

[Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times
as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure,
equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used
in recording the words (for His Praise)].''
[Muslim].

Commentary: The recitation of the words quoted in this Hadith is highly
meritorious and rewarding because they are full of Praise and Glorification of Allah.

One hundred times

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) said,

"He who recites in the morning and in the evening the statement:

`Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi

(Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with praising Him)'

one hundred times, will not be surpassed on the Day of Resurrection by anyone
with better deeds than one who utters the same words or utters more of these words.''
[Sahih Muslim].

abandonment of Salat

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) said,

"Between a man and disbelief and paganism is the abandonment of Salat (prayer).''

[Sahih Muslim].

There is none worthy of worship except Allah

On the authority of Jabir (may Allaah be pleased with him)
who reported that he heard Allaah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saying:

"The best way to celebrate the remembrance of Allaah is to say:
La ilaha illallah
"There is none worthy of worship except Allah. "

{Reported by Tirmidhi (hasan), Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, Ibn Hibban,
Bayhaqi in Shu`ab al-iman, from Jabir ibn `Abd Allah}

In the last third of every night

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that
Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“ In the last third of every night our Lord (Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala)
descends to the lowermost heaven and says:
Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him?
Who is asking Me so that may I grant him?
Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?”

[Reported by Bukahri].

THE EXCELLENCE OF DUROOD

Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) reports
that Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Salim) said,

"The real miser is he in whose presence I am
mentioned and then he fails to recite Salat on me".

Every Word Counts

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Do you know what gheebah (backbiting) is?”
They (the companions) said, “Allaah and His Messenger know best.”
He (peace be upon him) said,
“It is saying something about your brother which he whould dislike.”
Someone asked 'What if I say something about my brother which is true?'
The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied,
'If what you say of him is true, it is backbiting
and if it is not true you have slandered him.'

{ Sahih Muslim }

None amongst you is a (perfect) believer

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the
Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:

“None amongst you is a (perfect) believer until I do not become more
beloved to him than his father, his children and all the people.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah

Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) reported:
I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:
When anyone lands at a place, and then says:

'A'oothu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaqa.

" I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created,"

Nothing would then do him any harm until he moves from that place.

{Muslim}

Nothing will harm him

`Uthman bin `Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

"He who recites three times every morning and evening:

`Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma`as-mihi shai'un
fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami`ul-`Alim

(In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection
against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven,
and He is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing),'

nothing will harm him.''

[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: The prayer cited in this Hadith means that "I seek the Protection
of Allah by means of which one can save himself from every vice, whether it is an
animal or man, a jinn or Satan because He is Aware of everyone's condition and
Capable of hearing everybody's petition. He who comes in His Protection none can
harm him, except that which He wills.''

The seal of prophets

Irbad ibne-Sariyah Radiyallahu anhu,
the companion of Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam narrates:
I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam saying:

Verily I am the slave of Allah and the seal of prophets.

(Mustadrak Hakim)

Fajr and the 'Ishâ prayer

Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllâhu 'anhu]:
The Prophet [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam] said,
"No Salât (prayer) is more heavy (harder) for the hypocrites than the Fajr
and the 'Ishâ prayer; but if they knew the reward for these Salât (prayers)
at their respective times, they would certainly present themselves
(in the mosques) even if they had to crawl."

(Bukhari, Muslim)

Allah's Mercy prevails over..

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu reported that
Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam in a Hadith Qudsi said:

When Allah had created the creation,
He wrote in His Book which
is with Him above the Throne:
"Indeed My Mercy prevails over My Anger".

{ Muslim }

Dearer to me than anything

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,

"The uttering of the words:
"Subhan-Allah
(Allah is free from imperfection),
Al-hamdu lillah
(all praise is due to Allah),
La ilaha illallah
(there is none worthy of worship except Allah) and
Allahu Akbar
(Allah is the Greatest)'

is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith hightlights the fact that the formulas which
mention the Praise and Glory of Allah, His Majesty and Oneness are liked
by the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) more than anything in the world,
because this is one of the virtues which will survive and will be rewarded,
while the world and all that it has will perish.

What is "easy account"?

'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrated:
I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam
saying in one of his Salat

Allahumma haa-sibnee hisa-bun yaseera

(O Allah! Make my account easy).

When he finished his Salat,
I asked: O Nabiyallah! What is "easy account"?
He (sal-Allahu alayhi was-Sallam) replied:
That one's book of deeds be looked into and then he be forgiven.
Verily, O 'A'ishah!
He who will be interrogated on that Day will be ruined!

(Musnad Ahmad)

Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

"There are two statements that are light for the tongue
to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful:

`Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim

[Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah,
the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Desires for his brother

Anas Radiyallahu anhu reported:
The Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,

"No one of you shall become a true believer until
he desires for his brother what he desires for himself".

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith deals more comprehensively with the subject discussed above.
When a Muslim likes the same thing for another Muslim which he does for himself, then
he will be obviously expressing goodwill to his fellow Muslims. When Muslims adopt this
attitude at the community level, no Muslim will be an enemy of the other. In fact, each
Muslim would then be a well-wisher and helper of other Muslims. May Allah enable us to
adopt this attitude.

Dua to pay off debts

Abu Vail Rahimahullahu narrates
that a Mukatab (slave) came to Ali Radiyallahu 'anhu and said:
"I am unable to pay the agreed amount within the agreed period
(to get myself freed from slavery),
so help me."
'Ali Radiyallu 'anhu told him:
Should I not teach you those words,
which Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam taught me?
If you are in debt equivalent to Mount Seer (of Yemen),
Allah will discharge that debt for you.
Say this:

ALLAAHUMMAK-FINEE BI-H'ALAALIKA A'N H'ARAAMIKA
WA AGHNINEE BI-FAZ'LIKA A'MMAN SIWAAK

Çááøóåõãøó ÇßúÝöäöí ÈöÍóáóÇáößó Úóäú ÍóÑóÇãößó æóÃóÛúäöäöí ÈöÝóÖúáößó Úóãøóäú ÓöæóÇßú
"O Allah, save me from haraam and make the halaal sufficient and by your boon/favour make me independent from others".

(Tirmidhi)

upon hearing the Adhan

Jabir (Radhi Allaho anho) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said,

"He who says upon hearing the Adhan:

`Allahumma Rabba
hadhihid-da`wati-ttammati,
was-salatil-qa'imati,
ati Muhammadanil-wasilata
wal-fadhilata,
wab`athu maqaman mahmuda
nilladhi wa `adtahu

[O Allah, Rubb of this perfect call (Da`wah)
and of the established prayer (As-Salat),
grant Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
the Wasilah and superiority,
and raise him up to a praiseworthy position
which You have promised him]',

it becomes incumbent upon me to intercede
for him on the Day of Resurrection.''
[Al-Bukhari].

Opening the doors to heaven

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has narrated
that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

and Satan is put into chains"

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1923; Muslim, 1059).

He who provides a fasting person something

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

"He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast,
will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast,
without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.''
[At-Tirmidhi].

Past sins will be forgiven

Narrated Abu Huraira:
(May Allah be pleased with him)
"I heard Allah's Apostle
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
saying regarding Ramadan, "
Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere Faith
and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."

[Bukhari]

Fasting is for me...

Abu Hurayra (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,

and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven."

{ Al-Bukhari & Muslim }

Eating and drinking forgetfully

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported
that Allah's Messenger (May the blessings of Allah be with him) said:

“Whoever forgets that he is fasting
and eats or drinks something,
let him complete his fast,
for it is Allah Who has fed him and given him to drink.”

(Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Two occasions for joy

Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that
the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:

The fasting person has two occasions for joy,
one when he breaks his fast because of his breaking it
(and thus enjoys what he had to abstain from)
and the other when he meets his Lord
because of the reward for his fast.

[Al-Bukhaari & Muslim].

A night better than a thousand months

Anas (Radiallaho Anho) reports :
"Once when Ramadhan began,
the Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said:
"A month has verily come upon you,
wherein lies a night better than a thousand months.
Whoever misses such a night has indeed been deprived
of all that is good and none is deprived of it,
except he who is really unfortunate."

Break fast with dates

Sulaiman ibn `Amr Radiyallahu anhu reported

[Ahmad and At-Tirmithi]

Give up forged speech

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,

(i.e. Allah will not accept his Fasting.)"

{ Al-Bukhari }

O Lord I forbade him from eating and drinking
so let me intercede for him,
and the Quran will say:
I deprived him from his sleep at night
so let me intercede for him,”
He, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, then said:
“So their intercession will be accepted.”

[Ahmad].

Suhoor is a meal of blessings

Abu Said al-Khudri (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"The Suhoor is a meal of blessings, so do not leave it, even if one
of you just takes a gulp of water, since Allah sends mercy and
His angels seek forgiveness for those who take Suhoor".

[Ahmad and Ibn Abi Shaibah]

When to look for Laylatul Qadr?

Aisha (Radiallaho Anha) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam)said "Seek Laylatul Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten days ofthe month of Ramadhan".Note: According to the great majority of the religious scholars, the last tennights commence on the 21st night. Such is the case whether the month ofRamadhan consists of 29 days or 30. S0, one should seek Laylatul Qadr on the21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night.Ibn Hazm has a different opinion saying that the word Asharah used in the Hadithmeans ten. As such, the above calculations will only be correct in cases wherethe month of Ramadhan consists of thirty days. However, when there are onlytwenty nine days in the month (as often happens), the last ten days willcommence with the 19th day and the night being the 20th night. According to thiscalculation, it would appear that the unevenly numbered nights will actually bethe 20th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, 28th and 30th nights. But all Ulama agree that when in search of Laylatul Qadr Rasulullah (SallallahoAlaihi Wassallam) went into Aiteekaaf, he commenced it on the 21st night ofRamadhan. In view of this, these Ulama consider the odd nights to be theappropriate nights for Laylatul Qadr. One should, therefore, spend each and every night from the 20th onwards inworship of Allah, so that one may be sure of having got the Barakah of Ramadhan,Spending ten or eleven nights in devotion is definitely not so difficult, if onelooks at the great reward that is promised.5. Precise Knowledge of Laylatul Qadr was taken awayo Ubaadah Ibn Saamit (Radiallaho Anho) said "Once the Nabi (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) came out to inform us of the (correct date of) Laylatul Qadr.Unfortunately, a quarrel took place between two Muslims, whereupon He(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said 'I came out to inform you as to when LaylatulQadr occurs, but because two people quarreled with each other, the knowledge ofthe correct date was taken away. Perhaps that is better for you. So, seek itamong the ninth, seventh and fifth nights.'"Note: Three important points are referred to in this Hadith. Firstly it tells usof a quarrel, as a result of which the knowledge of the precise night ofLaylatul Qadr was lost to us. Arguments and quarrels are always the cause ofloss of blessings.Once Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) inquired of the Sahabah: "Shall Iinform you of an action that is better than Salaah, fasting and charity?" TheSahabah replied: "Certainly." Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) thensaid" "Maintain peaceful and good relations amongst yourselves, for verilyquarrels among yourselves destroy (shave off) faith," i.e. just as a razorshaves off the hair, so does quarrelling affect the Deen.Let alone the worldly people, even those among us who appear exceptionallyreligious and busy with Zikr are victims of these arguments and strife and areobstinate in their stand, in spite of the saying of Nabi (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam). In the first chapter of this book, we read how Rasulullah(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said that to insult a Muslim is indeed a seriouscrime and equivalent to the worst kind of usury , but we do not even spare aMuslim's honor or refrain from insults and little notice is taken of theinjunctions of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) and His Rasul (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam). The Quran says: "And argue not among yourselves, otherwise you will lose courageand your strength will depart" (al-anfaal 46). It is now the duty of those whoalways seek to injure and destroy the honor and dignity of others to ponder andreflect how much harm they have, in fact, done to themselves, and think how muchthey have, through these despicable deeds, degraded themselves in Allah(Subhanahu wa Taala) 's sight and in the sight of those around them.Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said that he who severs relations witha brother Muslim for more than three days and dies in this state, will gostraight to Jahannam. In another Hadith, it is stated that on every Monday andThursday, the actions of human beings are brought before Allah (Subhanahu waTaala). Then through His mercy (as a result of certain good deeds), forgivenessis granted, except to the idolaters and those who set up equals to Allah(Subhanahu wa Taala), However, regarding those two people between whom a quarrelhas taken place, friendship having been cut off, it shall be said, "Leave theiraffair in suspense until such time as they become reconciled."Another Hadith states that, when actions are produced before Allah (Subhanahu waTaala) every Monday and Thursday, repentance is accepted from those who repentand forgiveness is granted to those who seek pardon. As for those who hadarguments (with each other) they are left as they were.A Hadith further teaches us that, on the night of the 14th of the month ofShaban the mercy of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) is directed at all Allah(Subhanahu wa Taala) 's creation and forgiveness is freely granted, except totwo persons: One, a nonbeliever and the other, who harbors revenge againstothers. In another Hadith it is stated: "There are three people whose Salaah does notascend even a span above their heads." Listed among these are those who quarrelamong themselves. In the above few paragraphs, I have digressed from the point under discussion. It was not my intention to discuss all these Ahadith on quarrels or arguments. Imerely did it to bring to your notice this great evil, which we ignore, so muchso that even those whom we consider to be noble and righteous are guilty of it.On the other hand, it must be noted that this quarrelling, use of harsh wordsand cutting oneself off from one another is a crime and evil in Islam, onlycauses. It is permitted to break off relations with someone because of his evildeeds or because of some religious matter (wherein he is in the wrong andblamable).Ibn Umer (Radiallaho Anho) once quoted a saying of Rasulullah (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) to which his son said something that outwardly appeared as anobjection to it. The results was that Ibn Umer never again spoke to that son, aslong as he lived. There are several similar incidents related of the Sahabah. In our own cases, Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) is All-knowing, All-Wise and Healone knows the true state of affairs, as to which relations are broken offbecause of Deen and which because of our own honor, pride and dignity havingbeen hurt. The second point to which the Hadith under discussion draws attention is thefact that man should be satisfied with and accept gladly. Allah (Subhanahu waTaala) 's ruling in all matters. For example, even though it seems that the lossof the knowledge as to when Laylatul Qadr actually falls is a great loss, yet ithas to be accepted because it is from Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala).Because of this, Rasulullah (Salallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said. "It is better forus that way." One should ponder over this. Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) is at alltimes Merciful to His slaves. Even when someone becomes overtaken by a greatpunishment because of his own evil deeds, he needs only appeal to His Creator, admit his own evil deeds, he needs only appeal to His Creator, admit his ownweakness and that same punishment is made the cause for greater good. Our Ulama have pointed out quite a few advantages in our not knowing the precisedate for Laylatul Qadr. First, had we known the actual location of this blessednight, there would have been many who would not have worshipped Allah (Subhanahuwa Taala) at all during the other nights. As things are, one has to stay awakeand be in worship of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) for quite a number of nights, hoping that each night is perhaps the night. This means spending more nights inAllah (Subhanahu wa Taala) 's worship and getting reward for these.Secondly, there are among us those who are just not able to avoid evil. Howextremely dangerous and unfortunate for them would it be, when, in spite ofknowing that such and such a night is Laylatul Qadr, they might still spend itin sin and evil? Once the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) on entering theMasjid, saw one of the Sahabah sleeping, He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) saidto Ali (Radiallaho Anho) "Wake him up so that he can make Wudu".This Ali (Radiallaho Anho) did and then addressed the Nabi (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) thus: "O Rasul of Allah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) you are alwaysthe first to hasten towards any good deed. Why then did you not wake him upyourself?" To this the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) replied: "I fearedlest this man may refuse and refusal to my command is Kufr , Denial of Deen. Ifhe had refused your command, it would not be Kufr."Similarly, Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) in His mercy, does not wish that, in spiteof knowing which night is the real one, a Muslim should still spend it in sinand evil.Thirdly, if we did know and in spite of that, for one reason or another, withinor outside our control, we allowed that night to go by without worship of Allah(Subhanahu wa Taala) then it is very likely that thereafter, for the rest ofRamadhan, no other night would have been spent in worship, whereas now manypeople find it possible to spend one, two or three nights in worship of Allah(Subhanahu wa Taala) because we do not know which is Laylatul Qadr.Fourthly , every night spent in worship of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) in searchof Laylatul Qadr is a night for which separate reward is promised.Fifthly, we have read that Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) speaks highly to HisAngels about those believers who exert themselves in worship of Allah (Subhanahuwa Taala) during Ramadhan, Now more such occasions of receiving Allah (Subhanahuwa Taala) 's appreciation arise. In spite of not knowing when the real night ofLaylatul Qadr is and, although they have only a vague idea about its fixed time, still they exert themselves to the utmost in Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) 'sservice, night after night. If such then is their exertion when Laylatul Qadr isnot known, how much more will they exert themselves were it made known to them. There are other advantages also. it is common knowledge that Allah (Subhanahu waTaala) often keeps certain things secret, as for example, the Al-Ism Al-Azam(the Great Name of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala), whereby if we call upon Him, Heanswers). Similar is the case of that special moment on Friday when a Muslim'sDua 's are accepted, this time, too, is not known with complete certainty. The third point to which attention is drawn in the Hadith is the fact thatLaylatul Qadr should be sought among three nights: The ninth, seventh and fifth.By reading this together with the other Ahadith, we come to know that thisrefers to the last ten nights of Ramadhan. So to determine which nights are these, if we start from the 20th, countingupwards, then these three nights are the 25th, 27th and 29th. If, on the otherhand, we start counting from the 29th backwards (where Ramadhan has 29 days)these nights would be the 21st, 23rd and 25th, but it Ramadhan has 30 days, thenthese would be the 22nd, 24th and 26th nights. From the above, one can see how much uncertainty there is about the correctdate, and in fact, among the learned Ulama, there are approximately fiftydifferent opinions. Because of this, some Ulama have said Laylatul Qadr does notfall on one and the same night every year. If in this particular year, it fallson a particular night, then the following year it will fall on another night. There are times when the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) commanded theSahabah to search among a number of nights, whereas at other times he used tofix a certain night.Abu Hurairah (Radiallaho Anho) reports that once during a conversation with theSahabah, someone spoke of Laylatul Qadr. Rasulullah (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) asked: "What is the date to day?" They replied: "The 22nd ofRamadhan." The Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said: "Search for LaylatulQadr in the night following this day."Abu Zarr (Radiallaho Anho) reports, "I inquired of the Nabi (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) whether Laylatul Qadr was only granted during the lifetime ofRasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) or whether it would continue to comeafter him, Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) replied: It will continueuntil the day of Qiyamah.' I then inquired in which section of Ramadhan does itcome? The Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) replied, 'Search for it in thefirst ten and in the last tens days.'""Thereafter the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) became busy with other work.I waited and finding another chance inquired: 'In which section of those tendays Laylatul Qadr comes? Upon this, Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam)became angry with me, as He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) had never been beforeand said "If it had been Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) 's wish to make it known, would He not have informed us? Search for it among the last seven nights, andask no more.'"In another Hadith again, Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) is reported tohave told one Sahabi that Laylatul Qadr was on the 23rd night. Ibn Abbas(Radiallaho Anho) related: "While sleeping once, someone said to me in my dream:'Rise up, this is Laylatul Qadr,' I woke up and proceeded in hast to Rasulullah(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) and I found him in Salaah. That was the 23rdnight." According to other reports again, the 24th was Laylatul Qadr. AbdullahIbn Masood (Radiallaho Anho) said: "Whoever remains all the nights of the yearin worship of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) can find Laylatul Qadr. (In otherwords, the blessed night moves throughout the year and does not necessarily haveto come in Ramadhan only). When this was related to Ubay Ibn Kaab (Radiallaho Anho) he said: "Yes, IbnMasood 's meaning is that people may not stay awake just on this night andbecome contented." Thereafter he swore by Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) thatLaylatul Qadr comes on the 27th. This is also the view held by numerous Sahabahas well as Taabiees. What Ibn Masood and Ubay (Radiallaho Anho) actually meant was that the personwho remains in worship of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) all the nights of the yearwill certainly realize when Laylatul Qadr is. Among the Imams, a well-knownopinion of Imam Abu Hanifah (Rehmatullah Alaihi) is that Laylatul Qadr movesthroughout the year, while another view of his is that it moves about throughoutthe month of Ramadhan. His famous student-followers, Imam Mohammed and Imam AbuYusuf, however, were of the opinion that the night is fixed on one specificnight (which is unknown) during the month of Ramadhan, while scholars of theShaafi school of Islamic law believe that very likely it occurs on the 21st.Imam Ahmed and Imam Maalik ( Rehmatullah Alaihi) hold the view that it comesamong the last ten nights of Ramadhan, shifting from year to year and not fixed. But the vast majority of the Ulama, consider it most likely that Laylatul Qadrcomes annually on the 27th (of Ramadhan).Ibn Arabi (Rehmatullah Alaihi) says: "In my opinion, the view of those whobeliever that Laylatul Qadr comes on various nights throughout the year is mostlikely correct, because twice I have seen it in in the month of Shaban, once onthe 15th and once on the 19th and twice I have seen it in the middle ten nightsof Ramadhan, the 13th and the 18th, and I have seen it on every odd night of thelast ten. For this reason, I am certain it moves over all nights throughout theyear, but comes mostly in Ramadhan."Shah Waliullah of Delhi believed that Laylatul Qadr comes twice every year (a)One Laylatul Qadr is that one on which Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) 's commandsare revealed (to the Angels); this is also the night on which the Quran wascopied from the original and brought down to the first sky. This night does notcome in Ramadhan alone, but shifts and can come on any other night of the year. However, the particular night on which the Quran was revealed fell in Ramadhan.(b) The second Laylatul Qadr is the one of tremendous spiritual value, whenAngels descend in large numbers, while shayateen are held back and when Dua isanswered. This night comes only in Ramadhan, during the various odd nights ofthe last ten days. (This view of Shah Waliullah used to be most acceptable to myfather).Anyway, whether there are two Laylatul Qadr or whether there is only one, thefact still remains that one has to search for it, if not throughout the year, then at least in Ramadhan. Should that prove difficult, then at least during thelast ten days. When that, too, seems a bit too much for us, then at least theodd-numbered nights of the last ten days. In case one has missed some of thesetoo, then the 27th should not be allowed to go by.Thus, if by good fortune one is blessed with finding the night, then it wouldoutweigh all comforts and enjoyable things in the world. Even if one fails toget the much searched for night, then at least the reward for the worship isreceived. At least efforts should be made that the Salaah of Maghrib isreceived. At least efforts should be made that the Salaah of Maghrib and Ishathroughout the year is performed with Jamaah because if it is Laylatul Qadr thereward for both is so much more.It is a great blessing of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) that when one makes aneffort for religious aims and cannot meet with success, he is still rewarded forthe efforts. But is spite of this, how few are those who would make every effortin the service of Deen? On the other hand, in worldly affairs when one's effortsdo not bear fruit, then these efforts are written off as a loss. In spite ofthis, numerous people continue to spend their time, efforts and wealth inworldly pursuits that are fruitless and without worthwhile purpose and do nothold forth any such sure reward.6. Signs of Laylatul Qadro Ubadah Ibn Saamit (Radiallaho Anho) reports that he asked Rasulullah(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) about Laylatul Qadr, He (Sallallaho AlaihiWassallam) replied "It is in Ramadhan, during the last ten days on the unevenlynumbered nights, either 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or the last night of Ramadhan.Whosoever stands in worship of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) on this night withsincere faith and with genuine hopes of gaining reward, his previous sins willbe forgiven. Among the sighs of this night is that it is a serene, quiet, shining night, neither hot, nor cold but temperate as if a moon is shining clearand no meteors are shot at the Shayateen on that night. It lasts until the breakof the dawn. Another sign is that at morn, the sun rises without any radiantbeams of light, appearing rather like the moon in its fullness. On that day,Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) prohibits the Shayateen from rising up with the sun."Note: Part of what has been stated in this Hadith has already been dealt with. Some signs are here related about the actual night. These signs are clear andneed no further explanation. Apart from these, there are other signs too, asstated in Ahadith or in the experiences of those who had the good fortune toexperience Laylatul Qadr. The sign that is, however, most specific in the Hadith is the rising of the sun, without any radiant beams of light. Other signs are not always there. One SahabiAbdah Ibn Abi Lubaaba (Radiallaho Anho) says: "On the evening of the 27th , Itasted the water of the sea and it was sweet." Ayyoob Ibn Khalid said: "I oncehad to bath myself with sea water and on tasting it, found it sweet. This was onthe 23rd night."Some of the Mashaikh wrote that on the evening of Laylatul Qadr, everything doesSajdah before Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala), so much so that trees fall flat on theground, then return to their normal position, there are, however, spiritualphenomena not visible to the ordinary person.

{ Al-Bukhari }

The night of Power

Abu Hurairah (Radhiallaho Anhu) reports
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam) said,

Whoever stands in prayer and Ibaadah
on the night of Power with sincere faith
and with sincere hope of gaining reward,
his previous sins are forgiven

(Targheeb from Bukhari and Muslim)

Three Unfortunate Persons

Kaab Ibn Ujrah (Radiallaho Anho) relates,
that Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said,
"Come near to the mimbar" and we came near the mimbar.
When He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) climbed the first step of the mimbar,
He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassalla) said
"Aameen".
When He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) ascended the second step,
He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said
"Aameen".
When He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) climbed the third step,
He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said
"Aameen".
When He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) came down,
We said
"O Rasool of Allah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam),
we have heard from you today something which we never heard before".
He (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam) said
When I climbed the first step,
the angel Jibraeel (A.S.) appeared before me and said
"Destruction to him who found the blessed month of Ramdhan
and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness",
upon that I said
'Aameen'.
When I climbed the second step,
he (angel Jibraeel) said,
"Destruction to him before whom thy name is taken
and then he does not make Dua for Allah's blessing on me
(by saying, for example Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam)."
I replied
'Aameen'.
When I climbed the third step,
he (angel Jibraeel) said
"Destruction unto him in whose lifetime his parents or either
one of them reaches old age, and (through failure to serve them)
he is not allowed to enter Jannah".
I said
'Aameen'.
Reported by Haakim.

Note :- In this Hadith, it appears that Jibraeel (Alaihi Salaam) gave
expression to three curses, upon which
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam) said Aameen every time.
In al-Durr al-Mansoor it is reported that Jibraeel (Alaihi Salaam)
advised Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam) to say Aameen.
Being an angel of such high mark, Jibraeel 's giving these curses
is sure to be accepted.
May Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) in His infinite mercy grant us
His help and save us from these three dangers.
The first person described above is he who, even in the blessed month
of Ramadhan, spends the days in sin and disregards his duties,
thus he does not get forgiveness.
Ramadhan is the month of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s mercy
and if even this month is spent carelessly,
how can he expect to be pardoned for his sins?
If he cannot gain Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s forgiveness
in Ramadhan, then when will he do so?
The way to seek Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s pardon for his sins
is to fulfil his obligations in Ramadhan as ordered by
Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala), such as fasting, offering Taraweeh Salaah
and asking for Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s forgiveness for past sins.
The second unfortunate person is he who hears
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam)'s name mentioned and yet
does not make Dua for Allah's blessing on him.
For this reason, some Ulama consider it obligatory to make Dua
for Allah's blessing on the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam)
whenever the name of Mohammed (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam) is mentioned.
In some Ahadith, the person who fails to do so is called unfortunate
and stingy. Such people are described as those who would lose the way
to Jannah, or even among those who will enter Jahannam
or those who will not look upon the blessed face of
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam).
The Ulama give us various interpretations of these Ahadith.
The fact still remains that failure to make Dua for Allah's blessing
on the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam) is indeed very unfortunate.
And why should it not be?
After all, the favors bestowed upon this Ummah through
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam) are so great that neither
our writings nor our lectures can do justice in describing them.
His favors on us are indeed exceedingly great.
Therefore any warning for the neglect of making Dua for
Allah's blessing on the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi wasallam) is justified.
On the other hand, the reward for making Dua for Allah's blessing
on the Nabi (Sallallaho alaihi wassallam) is very great.
The Hadith teaches us that whosoever makes Dua for Allah's blessing
on the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi wassallam) once,
Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) sends blessing on him ten times
and the angels make Dua for him. All his sins are forgiven,
his status is elevated, his reward will be as mount Uhud and
on the day of Qiyamah Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi wassallam)
shall ask Allah (subhanahu wa Taala) to forgive him.Further promises of reward are:
Obtaining Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s pleasure, mercy and
safety against His anger, safety from the fears
of Qiyamah, seeing one's promised place in Jannah while still alive on
this earth. Besides these, there is the promise of never being troubled
by poverty and need, and of enjoying nearness to Rasulullah
(Sallallaho Alaihi wassallam), the promise of help against enemies
and the promise of being loved by others.
The learned in Islamic law have said that it is obligatory to make Dua
for Allah's blessing on the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) at least
once in a lifetime and scholars of all schools of Islamic law are agreed
upon this. There is, however, difference of opinion on whether it is
obligatory to make Dua for Allah's blessing each time his name is
mentioned or whether it is only preferred. The third person described in the above Hadith is he,
in whose lifetime one or both of his parents reach old age,
and yet he is unable to gain Jannah by serving them.
The Ulama have stated that in every permissible act,
it is compulsory to obey the parents commands. One should not be disrespectful to them and be humble,
even if they are non-believers. Neither should one raise
one's voice above theirs, nor address them by their names,
and give them due precedence, When they have to be called
towards the good and prohibited from evil,
it should be done leniently, and one should continue to
make Dua for them even if they refuse to accept. At all times, they should be honored and respected .
In a Hadith it is related The best of doors for entering Jannah is the father.
If you wish, look after it and if you wish, destroy it.
A Sahabi inquired from Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi wassallam)
What are the rights due to parents?
He (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) replied,
They are your Jannah and your Jahannam i.e. their pleasure leads you
to Jannah while their displeasure leads you to Jahannam.Further, it is stated in a Hadith that When an obedient son looks
with love and affection at his parents, the reward for that gaze
shall be the same as for Hajj which is accepted by Allah.
In another Hadith, it is stated that Except joining
other gods with Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala),
Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) forgives all sins as He pleases.
However, He inflicts punishment in return for disobedience
to parents, right in this world before death.
A Sahabi said O Rasul of Allah, I want to go for Jihad.
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) asked Is your mother alive?
He replied Yes,
Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) then said Serve Her,
Jannah lies under her feet for you.
Again another Hadith says
The pleasure of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) lies in pleasing
one's father, and Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala)'s displeasure
lies in displeasing one's father.
However, where parents who had not been properly treated
and respected are now dead, there is a remedy for their children
according to the Shariah. The Hadith teaches us that, in such cases,
one should constantly make Dua for their forgiveness and by so
doing, will be counted among those who are obedient.
Another Hadith states that the best deed one can do after the death
of one's father is to treat his friends and companions in a friendly manner
(as the father would have done).

Fasting Six days of Shawwal

Abu Ayyoub (Radiallaho Anho) reported
that the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said

"Whoever fasts the month of Ramadhan and then follows it by
fasting six days during the month of Shawwal will be rewarded
as if he had fasted the entire year.

[Muslim, at-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawood].

darood

Verily, Allah and His angels confer blessings on the prophet:
O you who believe!
Confer blessings on him, and greet him with a goodly salutation.
(Qur’ân 33:56)

Advice to keep tongue very busy in Dhikr

A sahabi once said,
"O Rasulullah (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam),
I know that the commandments of Shariat are many,
but of these tell me the one that I may practice
assiduously throughout my life."
The Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam), replied,
"Keep your tongue always moist (i.e. busy) with the 'Dhikr' of Allah".

{ Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah }

new moon of Dhuâl-Hijjah

It was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allaah be pleased with her)
that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When you see the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah,
and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice,
let him refrain from (removing anything) from his hair or nails.”
Narrated by Muslim,
According to another version:
“Let him not remove anything of his hair or skin.”

.....................................................................

According to a version narrated by
Abu Dawood, Muslim and al-Nasaai:
“Whoever has a sacrifice to offer,
when the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah begins,
let him not remove anything from his hair or nails
until he has offered the sacrifice”

Virtues of the Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,

"On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than
in the first 10 days of Zil-Hijjah.
The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year,
and the IBAADAT of each of these nights is equal to the
IBAADAT of LAILATUL QADR".

(Tirmizi & Ibn Maajah)

Reward of a Hajj and an Umrah

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (May Allah be pleased with him)
Allah's Messenger (sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) said:

For the one who observes the dawn prayer in congregation,
then sits down to remember Allah till the rising of the sun,
and then observes two rak'ahs (after the sun has risen),
there is for him the reward of a Hajj and an Umrah.

Allah's Messenger (sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) added: ...
Perfect, perfect, perfect.

{ Tirmidhi }

Subhan-Allahil-Azim

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

"There are two statements that are light for the tongue
to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful:

`Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim

[Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah,
the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Duua for worries and debt.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) reported,
"One day the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) entered the mosque.
He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) saw there a man from the Ansar called Abu Umamah.
He(sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) asked, 'What is the matter with you
that I see you sitting in the mosque when it is not the time of prayer.
' He replied, 'I am very much worried and in great debt, O Messenger of Allah!'
The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said,

'Let me teach you words to say so that
Allah will remove your worries and settle your debt?'

He exclaimed, 'Of course, O, Messenger of Allah.'
The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said,
'Say in morning and evening,

Hajj-Fourth pillar of Islam

Narrated Ibn 'Umar Radi-Allahu ‘anhu:
Allâh's Messenger Sala-llahu Alahi Wa Salam said:
Islâm is based on (the following) five (basic) principles: 1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but
Allâh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
and
Muhammad Sala-llahu Alahi Wa Salam is Allâh's Messenger. 2. To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly. 3. To pay Zakât (i.e. obligatory charity) . 4. To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Makkah) 5. To observe fast during the month of Ramadân.
Sahîh Al-Bukhâri, Sahih Muslim.

Hajj-Mabroor

Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported
that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said,

"Verily there shall be no reward for a
righteous pilgrimage except Jannat".

{Bukhaari & Muslim}

Fasting on the Day of Arafaah

It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafaah.
He (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,

"It compensates for the (minor) sins of the past and the coming year."

{ Muslim, Tirmizi, Ibn Majah }

This (fasting) is mustahabb for those who are not on Hajj.
In the case of the one who is on Hajj,
it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of Arafaah,
because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
did not fast on this day in Arafaah. It was narrated that he (sallallaahu
alayhi wa sallam) forbade fasting on the Day of Arafaah in Arafaah.

Days greater in the sight of Allah

Abdullah ibn-Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) reported
that Prophet Muhammad (sallallaho alaihi wa sallam) said:

"There are no days greater in the sight of Allah
and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him
than these ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah).
So, during this time, recite a great deal of
Tahlil (saying Laa ilaaha illa-Allah)
{ there is none worthy of worship except Allah }
Takbeer (Allahuakkbar) and
Tahmid (alhumdulillaah)."

(Reported by Ahmad.)

Istighfar for the believers

Sayyiduna Ubadah ibne-Samit radi Allahu anhu narrates:
I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam saying;

He who asks forgiveness for Mu'min men and Mu'min women,
ALLAH, Subhanahu wa ta'ala, writes for him a virtue (hasana)
for every Mu'min man and Mu'min woman.

{ Tabarani, Majma-uz-Zawaid }

Dua's-Supplications

When looking in the mirror

Recite:
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

"O Allah, just as You have made my external features beautiful, make my character beautiful as well".(Hisnul Hasin)
Sayyiduna
Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)
made many supplications which we did not memorize.
We said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)
You have made many supplications of which we do not remember anything.''
The Messenger of Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said,
"Should I not show you such a comprehensive dua that includes all duas?
Say:

Allahumma innin asaluka min khairi ma sa alaka minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahualaihi wasallam, wa aoozubika min sharri mastaza minhu nabiyyuka Muhammadun sallallahualaihi wasallam wa antal musta an wa alaikul balagh walahawla walaquwwata illa billah.

(O Allah, I beg to You the good which Your Prophet
Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) begged of You;
and I seek refuge in You from the evil where from Your Prophet
Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) sought refuge.
You are the One from Whom help is sought and
Your is the responsibility to communicate (the truth). There is no power or strength except with Allah the Exalted, the Great.'''
